A puppy doesn't always make the best Christmas present, but a chocolate Labrador, given to Amy Peer by her husband 15 years ago, changed her life--and for the better. "I hired a trainer immediately and realized training was my calling." says Amy, who had been working in the banking industry.

"I hounded my trainer, Michael Steinberg, until I finally convinced him to let me apprentice. I shadowed him for almost nine months, working 10 hour days, six days a week. Then I worked for him for five years before going out on my own.

Her business, which keeps her just as busy, is one-on-one, no-nonsense affair. Her clients--the dogs' owners--must sign a contract before she'll take them on.

"They need to be able to commit 30 minutes a day to training." she says, And they need to be consistent. "Dogs need to be taught in black and white. There can be no grey. It's either right or wrong--not 'sometimes okay."

A well-trained dog, she believes, enriches an owner's life. "You'll want to include him in so much because his presence enhances your life a million times over." And of course, a dog loves nothing more than spending time with his owner.

Amy Peer also works on improving cat behaviors. She can be reached at 310.889.9889.

I have been training dogs for close to 15 years on the Westside of Los Angeles. I offer private training only and work with my clients to create a program that will help them have a harmonious relationship with their dog(s). The programs include basic obedience and behavior training (including housebreaking, mouthing, inappropriate chewing, jumping, boundaries....) with a focus on how the client wants their dog to be a part of their day-to-day lives. I believe that at the end of the day the happier the owner is with their dog....the happier the dog is.

I work with problem behaviors such as separation anxiety, aggression (towards other dogs and / or humans) and fearfulness. I offer a 4 week program to help newly expectant parents prepare "Rover" for their new baby! I volunteer with my own dogs at UCLA Hospital (weekly for over 13 years) and am always enthusiastic to help my clients prepare for Delta certification if they are so inclined. I also offer in-house training on a case-by-case basis.
